Rich, creamy, and super chocolatey, this Vegan Chocolate Frosting is full of goodness and surprising nutritious! There’s no butter, no oil, and no icing sugar.

Chocolate is my favorite food. So when it comes to frosting, even the classic vanilla cream frosting will also be secondary to my top choice, aka chocolate frosting.

But as you might already notice, many frosting recipes are based on vegan/dairy butter and powder sugar, which of course is delicious but I don’t always have them at hand.

And I think we both know that butter and sugar might not be the healthiest thing in this world. (Moderation is always the keyword.)

So I just want to make a chocolate frosting that is made of healthier ingredients and that are sitting in my house most of the time. That’s what this Vegan Chocolate Forsting all about.

It’s vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, oil-free, and without adding sugar. And the most important thing is it’s effing delicious!

I know it may sound too good to be true. As Brené Brown points out in her book, Daring Greatly, which I’ve been reading recently, foreboding joy is a common way we do to shield our susceptibility and vulnerability.

I know joy might be scary, as the “too-good-to-be-true” phrase represents. But hey, just try not to think so much. So let’s make this delicious chocolate frosting before I keep rumbling.

THE 5 INGREDIENTS FOR VEGAN CHOCOLATE FROSTING

  • Nut Butter: You can use any kind of nut butter you like. Choices include peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, macadamia nut butter, and more. For the budget-friendly version, I always use Homemade Peanut Butter. But it will have a peanut-y flavor in the final product, which I’m totally fine with.
  • Cacao Powder: I’ll say use your favorite cacao or cocoa powder you can afford. The flavor of the cacao powder is really important because we don’t use a lot of ingredients here and it’s one of the heroes! I personally love this cacao powder a lot.
  • Plant Milk: Any plant-based milk will work. I recently fell in love with vanilla soymilk. You can use hazelnut milk for the extra Nutella-like flavor.
  • Date Paste: It’s actually just made with dates and water. You can read how to make it HERE.
  • Dark Chocolate: Since it’s called chocolate frosting, I think it’s better to have real chocolate in it. And the dark chocolate really intensifies the whole cacao flavor.

HOW TO MAKE VEGAN CHOCOLATE FROSTING

It’s actually really easy to make this vegan chocolate frosting. And it will take you less than 10 minutes if you got all ingredients at hand.

  1. Melt the dark chocolate by using a double boiler.
  2. Add the rest ingredients to a food processor or a bowl to mix evenly.
  3. Add the melted chocolate to the mixture. Blend or stir to incorporate.

That’s it! With only 3 steps, you can make this incredible vegan chocolate frosting.

You can use it directly on cakes, muffins, or cupcakes. If you want it to be stiffer, pop it in the fridge for 30 minutes. It will be harder if you refrigerate it longer.

It’s sweet but not super sweet. And the rich chocolate/cacao flavor just something I need and miss every single day.

Triple Chocolate Hazelnut Muffins

I call it frosting because I was thinking to use it on my newly baked cakes and muffins, but it also serves as a good spread if you let it sit in the fridge for an hour.

I even just use a spoon to eat it sometimes. No joking.

I hope you give it a try and let me know how did it go!
