Matcha Chocolate Chip Bliss Balls

As you might already know, I’m very into matcha tea recently. So that’s why I made these simple but still delicious Matcha Chocolate Chip Bliss Balls.

I love the flavor of matcha, but I don’t like it to be overpowering, grassy, or too weak, which is what I usually found in some store-bought matcha product. (No offense. I just really feel the flavor is weak.)

Maybe it’s me being picky. Anyway, that’s probably why I enjoy making my own food these days. I can also test and adjust along the way.

I’ve shared a Matcha Bliss Ball recipe a long time ago. That one requires a little bit more ingredients, so I thought, let’s make an easy one. Plus, I’m lazy these days. So I guess it’s a win-win. 😛

INGREDIENTS FOR MATCHA CHOCOLATE CHIP BLISS BALLS

This number of ingredients for this recipe can be counted within one hand. Yes, you only 5 ingredients for these Matcha Chocolate Chip Bliss Balls.

  • Dates: The main ingredient and sweetener of these matcha bliss balls.
  • Rolled Oats: give these balls more texture and oaty flavor.
  • Coconut Flour: very absorptive and we need that to form our balls. It also gives these balls a slight sweetness. Coconut flour is very unique in its own way, so I won’t say there’s a 100% great substitution. But you can try to use more oat flour if you really don’t have coconut flour at hand.
  • Matcha Tea Powder: the hero of these balls. It offers a mild tea flavor. I personally just love the flavor of matcha tea, but it’s also a great source of antioxidants.
  • Chocolate Chips or Cacao Nibs: I would say that almost everything is better with chocolate chips. If you’re prone to sweeter version, use chocolate chips. If you’re more into a bittersweet version, try cacao nibs instead.

Sure you can add more things like dessicated coconut or nuts into these bliss balls. I won’t stop you. But my goal here is to make it simple. So here it is!

HOW TO MAKE MATCHA CHOCOLATE CHIP BLISS BALLS

As I’ve talked about being lazy recently, this recipe is one of the lazy recipes you can make if you feel the same way as I do. You just need a food processor and everything will be easy-peasy.

  1. Grind the oats in a food processor. Transfer the flour into a bowl.
  2. Chop the dates in the same food processor.
  3. Add the oat flour, coconut flour, and matcha powder. Blend all together.
  4. Add in the cacao nibs. Pulse a few time to mix them in.
  5. Roll them into balls. Done!

The texture is really special with the coconut flour. It’s kind of soft but not chewy. The sweetness is on the spot that doesn’t overwhelm the matcha flavor.

I think I could have all day long if I feel like it. And it’s also a great way to include matcha tea into your snacks.
