Fresh, light, and refreshing, this Cucumber Smoothie Bowl is perfect for a hot summer day and it’s nothing but 5 simple ingredients.

Even though the fall season had rolled in, the summer seems still not willing to go. How could I tell it? Well, I still sweat in the daytime without any exercise.

So, I decided to have some cumber. As someone once said, I wish I was “chilled as a cucumber.”

Cucumber is pretty common in Taiwan. You can find it in both traditional markets or supermarkets.

I could have just eaten some cucumber slices. But, you know, it’s a little bit boring. So I decided to make a light, refreshing Cucumber Smoothie Bowl instead.

This Cucumber Smoothie Bowl is made with only 5 simple ingredients.

  • Frozen Pineapple
  • Frozen Bananas
  • Large Cucumber
  • (Ground) Chia Seeds
  • Ice Cubes & Water

We’re going to use frozen pineapple and frozen bananas to add sweetness and to create a thick texture. The ice cubes and water are mainly here to help to blend and keep it cool.

I use water here to keep it light and refreshing. But if you want a creamier version, you can use light coconut milk (from a carton) to replace water.

Just be mindful that there will be a hint of coconut flavor in your smoothie bowl if you opt for that.


You can keep it as simple as the above 5 ingredients, but you can always add more to build up flavor and nutrients.

Other ingredients that are great for this smoothie bowl are:

  • Leafy Greens, spinach, kale, or lettuce
  • Dates, make sure to pit them before adding to the blender
  • Lime Juice, or lemon juice, for a more refreshing kick

Making a smoothie bowl is one of the easiest things on the planet, as long as you have a blender in the house.

Simply add all ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth.

But still, there’s something I want to mention even though it’s really simple to make overall.

The thing is the order you put into your blender.

If your blender container is wide, like the Vitamix low-profile 64oz container, it’s okay to just throw them in there.

But if you’re using a smaller, or narrow-bottom containers, the order you put in will be crucial, especially if you don’t have a tamper.

It’s best to add liquid first, then the less liquid ones.

In this case, the order will be water/light coconut milk, cucumber, frozen pineapple, frozen banana, ground chia seeds, leafy greens, and ice cubes.

The final step will be pouring the mixture into bowls and adding toppings. As I often say, you can add whatever you want. The topping choices are as many as you can imagine (or have at hand).

I scanned my fridge, then I decided to add some fresh banana slices, coconut flakes, and some cacao nibs. Oh, and you know I always love adding nut butter to my smoothie bowls.

This Cucumber Smoothie Bowl is chill but not cold. It’s really refreshing, perfect for the summer day (or hot day).

  • 1 cup (~135 g) frozen banana slices 冷凍香蕉切片
  • 1/2 cup (~65g) frozen pineapple chunks 冷凍鳳梨切塊
  • 1/3 large cucumber 大黃瓜, organic if possible
  • 3-4 drinking water 飲用水, use coconut milk for creamier version 也可以用淡椰奶創造更綿的口感
  • 6-7 ice cubes 冰塊
  • 1 Tbsp ground chia seeds 奇亞籽粉
  • A handful of leafy greens 一小把綠葉生菜, optional if you don’t like the taste in your smoothie 非必要,若你不喜歡果昔碗中有菜味


  • Add all ingredients to a blender to blend until smooth.
  • Pour into the bowls and add toppings you like. Enjoy!
